What is Hang En Cave and how to get there?

Itinerary to explore En Cave

Located deep in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh Province), En Cave has the intact beauty of Vietnam’s primeval forests. Starting from Phong Nha village, it takes about an hour by bus along Road 20 Quyet Thang, a key target of destruction during the war years, to reach the Ho Chi Minh Trail West Branch and stop at km 35, where you begin your journey.

Descending Ba Giang slope is full of difficulties

The starting point of the En Cave exploration trip is Ba Giang slope, which is slippery and muddy in the rainy season. It takes you about 2 hours to climb the mountain, following winding trails and sometimes so steep that it is almost vertical.

Passing this slope is Rao Thuong valley, where there is a cool, clear stream, with smooth and slippery pebbles in the riverbed. Following Rao Thuong for about 20 minutes, you will see Doong village, home to the cheerful and hospitable Bru – Van Kieu people. Here, you can stop to rest at the house of village chief Nguyen Si Toa, enjoy green tea and chat with the locals.

Trekking from Doong village to En cave

Saying goodbye to Doong village and also saying goodbye to a relatively easy journey, you must continue to cross a series of rivers and streams to reach En cave. Spending two hours walking underwater at noon, under the Central region’s sun, will be a real challenge for everyone on the journey. Going to the end of the valley, the main entrance of En cave appears.
