The way to An Ma lake

An Ma Lake is located in Kim Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province. Near the legendary Ho Chi Minh Road. From Dong Hoi City to the Lake is about 50 km. After going on Ho Chi Minh Road, you will turn right about 500m to reach An Ma Dam. From here you can see the whole view of the lake.

Story of An Ma Lake

The story of An Ma reservoir has existed since ancient times. The story is associated with the historical king – Ham Nghi. There is a folk rumor that when passing through this area, King Ham Nghi dropped many treasures here to reduce the burden on his trip to the North to fight the French.

The place where the king dropped the treasure was an abyss, also known as the Abyss. This is where two branches of the Kien Giang River meet, facing each other are high mountains and cliffs, creating a stronger flow than other places and during flood season, creating an abyss.

The Le Thuy area and a part of Quang Ninh are considered as a “giant pan”. Because in the rainy season, water from the Kien Giang River flows down, condenses and becomes a flood. At that time, the people here lived very miserably, their only dream at that time was how to control that flood. However, due to the impact of war and poverty, everything could not be realized at that time.

But not disappointing the people, until the end of the 20th century, an idea of ​​building a dam to supply water for agricultural production was implemented. And in 1999, An Ma lake was started to block Rao Con river and help people store water in the rainy season.
