From early morning until around 9-10am, visitors can easily see the sea of white clouds, drifting in the middle of the majestic mountain and forest landscape. Standing from the top of Sa Mu, you will see vast forests, tall wind turbines reflected in the clouds, creating a majestic and poetic natural picture. Also from the top of Sa Mu, you will see the stilt houses of the Bru Van Kieu people on the Truong Son mountain range.

The road to Sa Mu Peak

From the center of Dong Ha ward, you follow National Highway 9 towards Lao Bao, turn left at Khe Sanh town to enter Huong Phung commune. From here, the road to Sa Mu peak is small, winding and steep, but the scenery on both sides of the road is extremely wonderful: coffee fields, pine forests, and especially giant wind turbines.

If you depart from Dong Hoi, you will go through the East branch of Ho Chi Minh road, then cross Highway 9b to reach the West branch of Ho Chi Minh road. Then go straight through the Dong Chau Khe Nuoc Trong nature reserve to reach Sa Mu.

Note: If you go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, be careful because of dense fog and limited visibility. Manual motorbikes or high-chassis cars are good choices for this journey.

Currently, Sa Mu does not have any major accommodation services, you can stay in Khe Sanh town (about 30 minutes drive from Sa Mu). Local cuisine has many specialties such as grilled hill chicken, bamboo rice, grilled stream fish and Pa Ko people’s rice wine.

If you like to learn about community culture, sleep in the Bru Van Kieu people’s stilt house in the Chenh Venh village community. The beautiful stilt houses are located right on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh road. The distance from Sa Mu peak to Chenh Venh village community is about 10 minutes by car.

In addition, on the top of Sa Mu there is a beautiful open space, visitors can camp overnight here to enjoy the fresh air.
