Heaven Gate – Cha Lo

Travel to Quang Binh, a hot land during the war to defend the country, a land famous for its top cave wonders. Heaven Gate – Cha Lo is a relic site associated with the resistance war against the US to save the country. This place has witnessed many miracles of generations of Vietnamese people with legendary feats. The terrain here is quite rugged with majestic mountain ranges and dense forests crowded together in layers. In particular, there are also wild orchids clinging to the trees with a strong fragrance and many precious medicinal herbs.

From Dong Hoi city, following the Ho Chi Minh trail, the journey to Heaven Gate takes about 1.5 hours. On both sides of the road are tall green trees, babbling streams, and occasionally green rice fields, creating a charming landscape of green mountains and blue water.

Heaven Gate is a precarious area on a high rocky mountain, with two rocks leaning against each other, one side connected to the cliff, the other side connected to the abyss. Legend has it that Heaven’s Gate appeared as evidence of the faithful but unsuccessful love story of Y Leng and Thong Ma. The image of two precarious high rocky mountains lying next to each other is also a tourist destination in Quang Binh that has been featured in many articles and artistic photos of the most talented artists. Below the two precarious cliffs form a fairly wide “welcome gate”, allowing trucks, tanks, … to pass through easily. I don’t know if it’s because this place is covered with clouds, and visitors coming here can reach out to touch it, like the boundary between heaven and earth, like being able to step into the blue sky… that’s why people gave this place such a mysterious name.

Towards the Vietnam-Laos border, “where the mountains and forests of the Western part of the Fatherland shine brightly with a star… do you see the corner of the border sky as if it were a fiery red light”, the Cha Lo border gate stands out with a towering flagpole, above which is the red flag with a yellow star fluttering. After many years of total victory, the end of the war, the Cha Lo relic – Heaven’s Gate today has donned a new coat. Cha Lo has become a spacious, large-scale, international border gate for trade with neighboring countries. The image of the local people is also fresher and more vibrant.

But the special thing when coming here to understand better the ethnic people here, you should stop by and participate in the Pheo market of the Chut people. The Chut people are lovely and hospitable, with innocent smiles always on their lips, full of humanity. The market is quite crowded with buyers and sellers, people from the lowlands and the highlands come here to exchange goods with each other. You also will not have to worry about eating or resting here, the Khua, May, and Sach people will guide and help in the most friendly and hospitable way to all visitors.
