Discover Brai Cave in western Quang Tri

If you want to learn about prehistory, go to Brai Cave in Huong Lap Commune, Huong Hoa District. From Se Bang Hieng Bridge in Huong Lap Commune, walk along the riverbank for about 20 minutes to reach the cave entrance. The cave has many beautiful shapes, suitable for organizing groups of visitors, adventure tourism and exploration. Brai Cave is suitable for adventure tourism. Currently, there are no travel companies exploiting tourism here, to go to Brai Cave, you should contact the locals for instructions.

Ta Puong Waterfall – a summer cooling destination

Another attractive destination is Ta Puong waterfall in Huong Viet commune, Huong Hoa district. The waterfall is about 15 m high, with many deep water areas and a wide stream bed, creating an ideal bathing place for tourists. Along with that is the unique Ba Voi waterfall that is rarely found anywhere else. In addition, in Huong Hoa district, there is also Chenh Venh waterfall right at the foot of Sa Mu pass, in Huong Phung commune. The waterfall falls from a height of about 20 m over the mountainside. Under the sunlight, the waterfall looks like a shimmering, magical crystal painting.

Western Quang Tri with a peaceful and quiet life. Road 9 from Krong Klang town winds along the Dakrong River, the upper source of the Thach Han River. Coincidentally, Dakrong Suspension Bridge appeared before my eyes, full of chance and impression. The cable-stayed bridge is considered a symbol of the mountains and forests of Quang Tri. This season, the river is dry, with some sections of the riverbed exposed, revealing the rocky riverbed. The suspension bridge is located in the Dakrong scenic complex, a natural tourist complex with rivers, streams, waterfalls, caves and majestic mountains and hills full of potential of my hometown Quang Tri.

Ta Con Airport, a place with many military marks

Leaving Dakrong, I continued my journey to Huong Hoa, the westernmost mountainous district of the province. A place not to be missed when coming to Huong Hoa is the historical site of Ta Con airport. There is a small museum here that preserves wartime artifacts, especially the US military aircraft that are still preserved intact on the green grass, on the old runway, stained with time.

From Ta Con airport, driving about 5km more along the Ho Chi Minh road, the West branch, in front of me is Rao Quan hydroelectric lake. The clear blue lake reflects the mountains and forests, creating a beautiful, tranquil picture. Returning to the center of Khe Sanh town, the district capital of Huong Hoa district, I had lunch and walked around Khe Sanh market. Khe Sanh is located in the middle of the Truong Son mountain range, so the climate is relatively cool. If you come here in the hot season of Quang Tri, you will probably feel more clearly the mildness and coolness of Khe Sanh – a place known as the small Da Lat of the West of Quang Tri.

Early in the afternoon, I drove to Lao Bao. I had the opportunity to go to Lao Bao a few years ago. To me, Lao Bao is a place of integration and bustling commerce. I heard about Lao Bao during an extracurricular activity on local economics, and from there I was strongly impressed with this special Economic – Commercial Zone. From Highway 9 starting from Dong Ha to Lao Bao, from Lao Bao through Savannakhet province (Laos), then through the provinces of Thailand, all the way to Myanmar. By chance, by some chance, after graduating from school, from business trips and travel, I had the opportunity to visit most of the provinces on the East-West Economic Corridor road axis. In the late afternoon, I stopped by to visit the Lao Bao Prison relic. The atmosphere here was a bit desolate, reminiscent of a painful historical period.

The trip to the Western Quang Tri region helped me fulfill my wish to travel all the East, West, South, and North of my hometown Quang Tri, ready for longer, further trips to explore the country and the world. It has been a long time since I have been back to my hometown. When I return, I will continue to visit and explore the corners of my hometown. Quang Tri is a small province and does not have many natural advantages. But to discover all the beauty of this land, you probably need more than one trip. As for me, I probably need a lifetime to explore my hometown every time I have the chance to return! My hometown, the place that gave me the inspiration and the first opportunity to step out into the world!

Western Quang Tri tourism is associated with Nature

The potential for tourism development in the western part of Quang Tri province is still very large with the ecosystem in the two mountainous districts of Dakrong and Huong Hoa, which are prominent in natural forms, adventure, and prehistoric exploration in caves and deep forests… which are distinct advantages of Quang Tri compared to other provinces in the region. However, the first “bottleneck” that needs to be resolved to develop tourism potential is the mindset of people and investment capital. Currently, investment and tourism exploitation in this area is not commensurate with the potential to effectively serve the local socio-economic development.
