The 1954 Geneva Agreement chose Ben Hai River and Hien Luong Bridge as the temporary military demarcation line and it was not until the spring of 1954 that this demarcation line was officially abolished.
The Ben Hai River originates from Dong Chan Mountain in the Truong Son Range and flows along the 17th parallel from West to East, then flows into the East Sea and then into Cua Tung Beach.
